Yesterday would forever be remembered as the day of the Jacksonville Shooting, when a man decided to shoot up the Madden ’19 tournament. The official eSports event was part of the Madden Championship Series, which offers large monetary rewards to winners. After gamers and attendees were moved to safety and authorities were able to investigate further and identify the suspect.

According to The New York Times, the suspect was a 24-year-old David Katz. He killed himself after fatally shooting two other gamers, putting the Death toll at three. The shooting took place at 1:34 p.m. at the Jacksonville Landing at the GLHF Game Bar. The motives behind the attack have not yet been discerned, but some believe that the game’s competition was a motivating factor. Eleven people were injured, nine by gunshots. The most critical victim was shot in the chest, but is expected to survive. Three victims were shot once, the other victims were hit multiple times.

In a video of the shooting, two gamers who both chose the Atlanta Falcons are conversing. Within moments, a red laser dot appears on one of the players before the feed switches to the video game and gunshots are heard. You can hear Katz shoot one player, who then yells “Goddamn, oh fuck, what’d he shoot me with!” The screen shows the controller has been disconnected as the shooting continues.

The Jacksonville Shooting once again would bring up the issue of gun control in America. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. We Stand Strong together. God Bless America!!!
